LOGY: A New Teaching Model Earns the Internal Logistics Innovation Award for Tavastia Vocational College’s Training Program
The Finnish Association of Purchasing and Logistics (LOGY ry) has presented the 2024 Internal Logistics Innovation Award. The recognition was announced at the Logistics Fair held in Tampere on 11 September 2024.
This year’s award went to Tavastia Vocational College’s Internal Logistics training program. The jury justified its choice by noting that the recipient is a true pioneer in its field, using a wide variety of teaching methods and making exemplary use of the opportunities offered by new technology.
In the college’s internal logistics specialization, theory and practice are closely intertwined. The learning environment is Tavastia’s central warehouse, where orders arriving through the staff’s internal online store are processed. Students participate in real logistics processes such as goods receiving, shelving, picking, and distribution transport.
“The training is fully up to date and gives students excellent readiness to enter working life. Future warehouse professionals get to use new technology and the same types of equipment and systems that internal logistics professionals utilize in companies. The teachers’ attitude, expertise, and professional pride also made a strong impression on the award committee,” say Jussi Peltola and Pekka Molarius, chairs of LOGY’s Internal Logistics Forum.
“The Internal Logistics Innovation Award we received is a great recognition of our development work and bold teaching solutions. We are proud that our ideas have created a training program that meets the needs of the industry. The award encourages us to continue innovating and improving education even further,” says Janne Hakala, Internal Logistics Lecturer at Tavastia.
Tavastia Vocational College is a multidisciplinary vocational institution with over 4,000 students annually. The internal logistics teaching model at the Turenki campus has been developed since 2018, and over time, the central warehouse operations have been fully managed by students.
The annually awarded Internal Logistics Innovation Prize aims to promote the development of domestic internal logistics by recognizing professionals in the field.
